Construct and its measurement

Narrow down your mater's thesis topic so that it clearly indicates: 

  • the context of your research (for instance: a school, a subject, a platform, teachers, students)
  • the intervention you apply (for instance, a new teaching method, a new learning resource, a teacher training course)
  • the research design (for instance, experimental research, action research, design-based research, survey research, case study)
  • the construct you measure (for instance, learners' motivation to study physics, adoption of  digital innovation, technology acceptance, quality of learning resources)

For instance, if your initial topic was quite general such as "Digital innovation in schools", the narrowed-down version of the same topic is something like this: "Comparing concerns-based adoption of digital transformation in five schools from the Future Classroom Lab programme: a multiple case study". In this new, narrowed-down topic you clearly see all the components requested by me: 

  • context: five FCL schools
  • intervention: digital transformation programme
  • research design: multiple case study
  • construct: concerns-based adoption

Now, find a suitable scientific data collection instrument for your research. I recommend to use scholar.google.com and seek at the end of relevant research papers an annex that shows the full instrument (e.g. survey questionnaire). For instance, here are some instruments:

  • CBAM Stages of Concern questionnaire
  • SMQ II Science Motivation Questionnaire
